So this is a quick post about signing up for the ACA (obamacare). I work for the government, so I have to sign up and participate in the healthcare market. Although I’m only 23, I don’t have to sign up because I’m still cover under my mothers health insurance. (you can stay on until your 26 yrs old) Nevertheless, I decided to make an account and look at my options.
I made an account through Washington D.C. which is different and separate from the federal exchange. (which is for states that didn’t accept the ACA and refuse to make their own marketplace) So how did it turn out for me?? Well it took me almost a day because my job doesn’t have a “physical address”…
*darn government builds*…but once on, it was fine. I didn’t feel like people could steal my information and because I’m young, a lot of the plans are fairly cheap.
Now this is my first time ever shopping around for health coverage, but from what I have seen, you want to watch out for is high deductibles!! How I understand it…deductibles are like one big pot you have to fill before the insurance will pay for everything. Its kind of tricky because, a high deductible can mean lower monthly rates BUT also more money out of pocket. So some deductibles range from $1000 and up.
So if any of you go on the marketplace let me know what happens and if you find any good deals!
